Congress Finalizes Candidates for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls

The Congress' Central Election Committee convened on Monday to finalise the list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The elections will see the Congress contesting in alliance with the National Conference.
High-profile attendees at the AICC headquarters included Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former chief Rahul Gandhi, and other senior leaders such as K C Venugopal and Salman Khurshid. They confirmed that seat-sharing arrangements had been made, with the National Conference contesting 51 seats and Congress 32 seats. Additionally, one seat each was allotted to CPI(M) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP).
Earlier, the Congress released its initial list of nine candidates, including key figures such as Ghulam Ahmad Mir from Dooru and Vikar Rasool Wani from Banihal. The three-phase elections are scheduled for September 18, September 25, and October 1, with vote counting set for October 8.
