Heavy rainfall in Bhopal over the last 24 hours has prompted authorities to open two gates of Kaliyasot Dam and one gate of Bhadbhada Dam on Wednesday. While Kaliyasot Dam is on the Kaliasot River, a Betwa tributary, Bhadbhada Dam is situated on Bada Talab (upper lake).

Continuous rainfall since Tuesday evening has raised the water level in the upper lake, forcing dam gates to open for water release. The meteorological office forecasts more heavy rain in Bhopal for today, with precipitation likely to continue for the next four days though in reduced intensity.

The Met office has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in at least eight districts of central Madhya Pradesh, predicting precipitation over 204 mm. An orange alert is in place for adjacent districts, estimating rain between 115 mm and 204 mm. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining regions.
