Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar on Monday directed intensified foot patrols across the state to enhance crime prevention and strengthen law enforcement efforts. The goal is to create a secure environment and foster public confidence in safety measures.

An official release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) emphasized that the DGP has given instructions to establish an environment of security among citizens through effective crime prevention and strong policing. Kumar noted the increase in criminal activities at night, including theft, robbery, and misbehaviour with women, which adversely affect the public.

To curb these incidents, the DGP mandated increased police activity at night. He instructed district heads to identify and map criminal hotspots, ensure effective foot patrols, and check sensitive areas. Daily patrols around major crossings, markets, bus stands, and other public places were also emphasized. Kumar directed the deployment of sufficient patrolling vehicles and installation of CCTV cameras at crucial locations.

Circle Officers were assigned to oversee night patrolling, with the additional superintendent of police supervising these activities. Random checks by district in-charges will be conducted until 1 AM. Officers found negligent in night patrolling may face disciplinary action.

Foot patrolling around schools, colleges, and industrial areas during peak times was also highlighted. Police personnel are encouraged to interact with the public to instill a sense of security and seek their cooperation.
