Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated on Monday that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Indian Railways' Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) and the Indian Air Force aims to create a robust logistics system for the armed forces. Underscoring its significance, Singh mentioned that this agreement aligns with India's objective of achieving self-reliance (Aatmnirbhar) in the defence sector.
The MoU will endow the two services with enhanced logistics expertise, fostering in-house capabilities across various facets of logistic operations. This move also aligns with broader national development plans, including the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan 2021 and the National Logistics Policy 2022. Singh emphasized the necessity of seamless logistical support for military operations, stating that efficient logistics are crucial for the rapid mobilization of troops and resources, thereby bolstering national security.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw elaborated that GSV is committed to an industry-centric curriculum, designed to ensure that graduates are highly employable. With partnerships like the one with Airbus, which plans to hire 15,000 engineers trained at GSV, the university serves as a model for integrating education with practical industry needs. Senior officials from the Ministries of Defence and Railways, along with leaders from the defence and educational sectors, attended the event, highlighting its strategic importance.
