Indian Railways has emerged as a significant contributor to sports excellence in India, having its athletes receive the most prestigious national sports awards. In a recent announcement, the Railway Ministry revealed that out of 32 athletes shortlisted for the esteemed Arjuna Awards in 2024, five hail from its ranks.
The athletes, Jyothi Yarraji, Annu Rani, Salima Tete, Swapnil Suresh Kusale, and Aman, will be honored by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17. With these latest additions, Indian Railways now boasts a remarkable collection of national sporting honors.
The Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), established in 1928, plays a crucial role in nurturing sports talent across 29 disciplines. It supports over 9,000 athletes, with 3,000 actively competing in international events, reinforcing the organization's pivotal role in India's sports narrative.
