A crucial meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress party in the run-up to the Haryana Assembly elections commenced at AICC headquarters in Delhi on Friday. The session was led by Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, with notable attendees including Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary (Organisations) KC Venugopal.

Senior leaders like Ajay Maken, Salman Khurshid, and Manickam Tagore, along with leaders from Haryana Congress, were present. In a major development, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party, signaling a strategic boost for the upcoming polls.

Earlier in the week, another CEC meeting was convened to discuss ticket allocation for Haryana. Apart from President Kharge, the meeting was attended by LoP in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and other CEC members. Meanwhile, AICC in-charge of Haryana, Deepak Babaria, confirmed ongoing seat-sharing discussions with Aam Aadmi Party and other INDIA bloc partners like CPI(M) and the Samajwadi Party for a united front in the elections.

The 90-member Haryana Assembly election is set for October 5, with vote counting scheduled for October 8. (ANI)
