The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday granted bail to one of the accused in the high-profile Kanhaiya Lal murder case. The division bench approved Mohammad Javed's bail on a bond of Rs two lakh and a surety of Rs one lakh each.

Javed has been accused of conducting reconnaissance in connection with the brutal beheading of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur. The crime, which occurred in broad daylight on June 28, 2022, was reportedly carried out by two assailants allegedly reacting to Lal's social media post in support of suspended BJP leader, Nupur Sharma.

The gruesome murder sent shockwaves nationwide and led to a public outcry. Initially registered at Dhanmandi police station, the case was re-registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on June 29, 2022. Soon after the murder, the two assailants posted a video online, boasting about the beheading and issuing threats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The suspects, Riyaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, were arrested within hours.
