In a significant step toward environmental sustainability, Ganesh idols crafted from cow dung are gaining traction in the state. This initiative promotes greener celebrations while underscoring the importance of eco-friendly practices during traditional festivals.

Srinivasa Prasad, the artisan behind this movement, said, 'We began making these idols to support our Gaushala. For over a decade, we've crafted Ganesh idols, sending them to various regions such as Andhra Pradesh and Ahmedabad. Cow dung, possessing antibacterial properties, provides job opportunities for women and supports empowerment. We create approximately 30 cow dung products, including these sacred idols.'

He explained the process, saying, 'The cow dung is thoroughly dried, powdered, and mixed with lasoda. It is then placed into a mold and decorated. The drying takes 15-20 days, typically during summer.' Prasad added, 'These durable idols are priced between Rs. 100 and Rs. 1500. Unlike traditional idols, cow dung versions enrich the soil and dissolve without polluting water, supporting plant nutrition.'
