BESCOM Issues Guidelines for Safe Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations

BESCOM has released new guidelines for Ganesh Chaturthi festival organisers to ensure safe electricity usage. Organisers are encouraged to contact local sub-divisional officers for temporary connections. BESCOM emphasizes safety during pandal setups, inspections, and dismantling, urging adherence to outlined measures and prompt reporting of electrical hazards.

BESCOM, Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited, has introduced new guidelines for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival to ensure safety and proper electricity usage. Festival organisers are advised to contact local sub-divisional officers for arranging temporary electricity connections. BESCOM officials are directed to provide immediate electricity connections in coordination with local authorities.

Highlighting the importance of safety, BESCOM Managing Director Mahantesh Bilagi stated, "Safety must be a priority during the festival. BESCOM will assist with lighting systems, and it is crucial to adhere to safety measures during the installation and dismantling of idols to prevent electrical accidents." BESCOM's safety measures include proper handling of electrical wires, ensuring insulated wiring for serial lights, and avoiding contact with electric poles and overhead power lines.

Additionally, festival organisers need to secure a no objection letter from relevant authorities before obtaining a temporary power connection. An Assistant Executive Engineer or Assistant Engineer will inspect the site and approval is contingent upon a completed wiring report from a registered electrical contractor. Following these steps, authorities will provide the necessary temporary connection which will be monitored and disconnected post-festival.
