An 11-year-old girl was attacked by a wolf in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night, exacerbating fears among local residents. The victim, identified as Suman, was dragged out of her house and onto the road by the animal, according to eyewitness accounts from her family.

Sunil Kumar, a relative, blamed the forest department for failing to install doors on houses in the village. "If there were doors, this incident would not have happened," he stated, adding that the wolf had previously been spotted in the area three to four times.

Suman's brother, Surender, confirmed that the wolf struck while the family was asleep. "The man-eater dragged my sister from the house. Everyone was sleeping and there are no doors in the house," he said. Despite the attack, Suman managed to raise an alarm, prompting her brother to wake up and chase the wolf away. She was later admitted to the local government hospital in Mahasi for treatment.

The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department has launched "Operation Bhediya" to capture a pack of wolves responsible for over 40 injuries and nine deaths in the Bahraich region. Authorities recently captured a fifth 'killer' wolf and continue their search for the remaining animal. The forest department has also installed three snap cameras in Sikandarpur village around six caves suspected to be the wolves' habitat.
