The country's coal production rose by 6.48 per cent to 384.08 million tonnes (MT) in the first five months of the ongoing fiscal year.

The production was recorded at 360.71 MT between April and August FY24.

These figures are currently provisional, according to the coal ministry.

Coal India Limited, which contributes over 80 per cent of the country's coal output, marked a growth of 3.17 per cent year-on-year, reaching 290.39 MT during April-August FY25, the coal ministry reported.

The coal production from captive and additional entities rose starkly to 68.99 MT in April-August FY25, up from 52.84 MT in the same period ending last year.

The cumulative coal dispatch for the period up to August stood at 412.07 MT, compared to 391.93 MT during the corresponding period of FY24.
