Continuous rainfall from August 19 to 23 has caused severe flooding in Tripura, resulting in the loss of 31 lives, with two people injured and one still missing, state officials reported on Wednesday. Currently, 53,356 people are taking refuge in numerous relief camps scattered across the state.

The state government has established 369 operational relief camps providing essential services such as food, drinking water, and medical assistance. An official release from the Relief, Rehabilitation & Disaster Management Department disclosed that over 27,000 food packets have been distributed. Though the Gomati River's water level has decreased, it remains above the flood level.

Relief efforts involve three teams from the State Disaster Response Force (TSR) and two from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with 500 volunteers from Civil Defence and Aapda Mitra. High-level monitoring continues, with focus areas including immediate relief provision, drinking water, health, and sanitation. Urban areas faced severe disruption, with over 32,000 individuals evacuated to camps where they are receiving care and support.

Efforts to prevent waterborne diseases through sanitation measures are in place, including regular cleaning, disinfecting, and waste management practices. Damage assessments have calculated losses around Rs. 306 crore. The health department is preparing to distribute vast quantities of ORS, halogen tablets, and other medical supplies to mitigate health risks. An Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has arrived for on-the-ground damage assessment. Full cooperation from state departments is assured.
