Uttar Pradesh police have arrested four men involved in printing counterfeit currency, police confirmed on Wednesday. The suspects were apprehended after a tip-off from an informant. The accused were using a room in a madrassa for the illicit operation.

'A fake currency note-making gang has been uncovered, and the police have arrested four suspects, including the mastermind identified as Zahir Khan, a resident of Odisha,' police stated. 'They were using a room in the madrassa named Jamia Habibi to print fake currency notes.'

Based on this information, the authorities conducted the operation. The police uncovered that the operation had been ongoing for 3-4 months, and the madrassa principal was aware and profiting from it. 'During interrogation, it was found that this operation had been ongoing for the past 3-4 months in the madrassa room. The principal of the madrassa was also complicit and received a share of the profits,' police stated.

Authorities recovered 1,300 counterfeit Rs 100 notes, totaling Rs 1,30,000, along with 234 pages with printed fake notes, and equipment including a laptop, printer, scanner, cutter, and tape mimicking genuine currency's security thread. 'The police recovered 1,300 fake Rs 100 notes and equipment used in the counterfeiting operation,' police added.

Ongoing investigations aim to uncover how the gang learned to print fake notes and whether other individuals are involved. 'Further investigation is ongoing to determine how the gang learned to make the fake notes and the possibility of other individuals being involved,' police noted.
