Russia's Largest Air Assault on Ukraine: Missiles, Drones, and Power Outages
Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine, impacting energy facilities and causing power cuts. Seven people died, and numerous regions experienced infrastructure damage. In response, Kyiv vowed retaliation and continued appeals for long-range weaponry. Meanwhile, a suspected drone violated Polish airspace, heightening regional tensions.
On Monday, Russia initiated its most extensive missile and drone offensive against Ukraine, resulting in seven fatalities and widespread damage to energy facilities, according to Ukrainian officials. The assault led to significant power and water shortages in several regions, including Kyiv, as Moscow targeted critical infrastructure.
Ukraine's Air Force successfully intercepted 102 out of the 127 incoming missiles and 99 out of 109 drones, marking it the most massive attack of the conflict, Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk stated on Telegram. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed extensive damage to the energy sector and emphasized ongoing efforts to bolster defenses.
NATO member Poland reported a probable drone incursion into its territory, further intensifying regional security concerns. In the wake of the attacks, U.S. President Joe Biden condemned Russia's actions and promised ongoing support for Ukraine's energy grid. Ukrainian officials appealed for long-range weaponry to deter future strikes.
