Drass, located in Ladakh, has been officially declared a new district, with celebrations erupting across the region. The announcement was met with widespread acclaim, particularly from BJP leader Fayaz Ahmad Qari, who expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for fulfilling a long-standing local demand.

'Today is a significant day for us as Drass has been made a district by PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The people of Drass have always defended the country by serving as soldiers, and we will continue to do so,' said Qari in a statement to ANI. He also extended his thanks to the local BJP leadership in Ladakh for their persistent efforts in advocating for this cause.

BJP members in Drass organized a celebratory event to welcome Fayaz Ahmad Qari, with the community gathering in large numbers to mark this historic milestone. The declaration is seen as a major step toward regional development.

Drass is one of five new districts announced by Home Minister Amit Shah, a move expected to enhance administrative focus and development opportunities. Qari noted that this announcement has sparked optimism among residents, who view it as a crucial step toward greater progress and recognition for Drass.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Union Territory administration to establish a committee to evaluate various aspects of the new districts, including headquarters, boundaries, structure, and the creation of posts. The committee is expected to submit its report within three months.

Upon receiving the committee's report, the Union Territory of Ladakh will send a final proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs for further action. This move follows the declaration to create five new districts in Ladakh, marking a significant step towards transforming the region into a developed and prosperous area.
