The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This action follows orders from the Calcutta High Court to investigate alleged corruption linked to the institution.

This morning, a Special Investigation Team from the Calcutta High Court paid a visit to the CBI office at Nizam Palace, delivering crucial documents related to the case. Following the handover, the CBI promptly filed the FIR and submitted a copy to the Alipur Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court. According to CBI sources, the investigation is now underway, with further actions pending the collection of substantial evidence.

In a concurrent development, a team of experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi, arrived in Kolkata to conduct polygraph tests on Dr. Sandip Ghosh and others implicated in the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor. The Calcutta High Court has granted permission for these tests, which also involve the main accused Sanjay Roy, four doctors, and one volunteer.

The Court has mandated the CBI to submit a progress report on the investigation within three weeks, due on September 17. Separately, the Supreme Court has ordered the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to take over security at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital amidst ongoing protests in West Bengal. In response to a Supreme Court call, doctors from various hospitals, including Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, have ended their strike in protest against the incidents at RG Kar Medical College.

The trainee doctor was discovered deceased in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on August 9. Following appeals from the Supreme Court for medical professionals to resume work, the Resident Doctors Association of Indira Gandhi Hospital has concluded its 11-day strike against the hospital rape-murder.
