The Bharatiya Janata Party's Central Election Committee is expected to convene on August 25 to finalize the party's candidates for upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Haryana. The meeting will take place at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

The Election Commission has released a notification for the first phase of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for September 18 across 24 seats. The Union Territory will hold elections in three phases, while Haryana will conduct elections for its 90 assembly constituencies on October 1. Vote counting for both regions is set for October 4.

In preparation, the BJP conducted a two-day brainstorming session in Gurugram to zero in on candidates for the Haryana polls. According to sources, discussions were held regarding potential candidates for all 90 assembly seats.

The BJP's Haryana unit has reportedly compiled a list of over 300 candidates, which will be reviewed by the Central Election Committee. Some constituencies have two to three names shortlisted, while others have up to five. (ANI)
