The Indian government has initiated a nationwide campaign under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyaan (PM-JANMAN) to provide benefits to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in 194 districts. The campaign, which will run until September 10, was launched on Friday.

The Union Tribal Affairs Minister, Jual Oram, and his deputy, Durgadas Uikey, reviewed the progress of PM-JANMAN and discussed preparations for the extensive campaign. With 75 communities recognized as PVTGs across 18 states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the campaign seeks to address significant challenges in social, economic, and educational areas for the PVTG population, which stands at 10.45 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PM-JANMAN last year on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in Jharkhand, aiming to offer essential services such as housing, clean water, sanitation, education, healthcare, and better infrastructure to PVTG families. With an allocation of Rs. 15,000 crore over three years, the initiative eyes reaching 44.6 lakh PVTG individuals in 28,700 habitations. Volunteers from various organizations will aid in the distribution of essential documents and services, including health camps to tackle specific health issues like sickle cell disease.
