Delhi Minister Atishi has written to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, urging immediate action to tackle the pressing issue of overflowing sewers in Delhi, particularly in Uttam Nagar. Atishi emphasized the need for adequate manpower and machinery across the city to prevent inconvenience to residents.

In her letter, Atishi noted a significant reduction in resources, highlighting that last year 73 contractual workers and 14 sewing machines were assigned for sewer and water pipeline maintenance, while only 18 workers and 7 machines are available this year. She stressed that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is crucial to civic utility, warning that the city could come to a standstill if the DJB fails to function properly. She also mentioned that unresolved files at DJB are due to a lack of funds.

Atishi described the situation as an artificial financial crisis, noting that only 400 crores have been released to the DJB so far. She directed the Chief Secretary to release adequate funds within the next 48 hours and called for strong action against those responsible for the fund mismanagement. Earlier, Atishi had addressed Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw about severe waterlogging under the Zakhira underpass, attributing it to poor water channeling from Indian Railways property.
