In the wake of relentless rainfall, Santirbazar in South Tripura witnessed a catastrophic landslide on Thursday, claiming the lives of 10 individuals. The Tripura state government, expressing profound sorrow, extended condolences to the families of the victims.

The state administration has pledged financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to each bereaved family. Authorities have called for community cooperation and assured that comprehensive support for disaster victims is in place. The commitment to aid those affected by the calamity remains steadfast.

Approximately 30,000 people in Tripura are grappling with the aftermath of the heavy rains. In response, the government has established 321 relief camps across the state. The southern regions, particularly, have recorded rainfall levels between 350 mm and 375 mm, exacerbating the situation.

Educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, have been closed due to extreme rainfall. Seven individuals have lost their lives in various landslide incidents. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, addressing ANI, attributed the torrential rains to a sudden depression in the Bay of Bengal and stated that nearly every district has been affected. Saha emphasized his continuous monitoring and coordination with officials to manage the crisis, noting the unprecedented rainfall in southern districts.

Chief Minister Saha also confirmed the deployment of relief teams and the arrival of additional assistance from other states to mitigate the impact of this disaster. (ANI)
