BRS MLA T Harish Rao has strongly criticized the Telangana Congress government for failing to fulfill its election promise regarding the waiver of farmers' loans. Rao noted that before the Assembly elections, the Congress, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, had promised to waive off loans of Rs 2 lakhs for farmers, a commitment that remains unfulfilled.
Rao highlighted that during both Assembly and parliamentary elections, the Congress promised different deadlines for loan waivers, including December 9 and August 15, neither of which were met. He accused the Congress of exploiting farmers' votes without delivering on their promises, noting that more than half of the state's farmers have yet to see any loan relief.
The government has divided the loan waiver into three instalments, a move that has frustrated many farmers. On Thursday, BRS staged protests across Mandal and Constituency centres, demanding an unconditional loan waiver for all farmers. BRS Working President KT Rama Rao criticized the contradictory statements from the Chief Minister and other ministers, pointing out that only a fraction of the Rs 40,000 crore promised has been allocated to date. Rama Rao called for an immediate and complete loan waiver to alleviate the growing distress among the farmers.
