The Election Commission of India has unveiled dates for the state assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. In anticipation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to convene its Central Election Committee meeting on August 25, 2024, at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. According to a senior source, "The CEC meeting will discuss and finalize the names of the candidates. State presidents, election incharges, and core group members from both states are expected to attend."

Additionally, the source informed ANI, "A core group meeting for the states will be held a day prior to the CEC." BJP National President JP Nadda will preside over the meeting, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other CEC members in attendance.

The Election Commission's announcement marks the first major electoral battle since the Lok Sabha elections. Notably, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls are significant as they follow the region's special status revocation and are the first elections in the state in a decade. The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will occur in three phases beginning September 18, while Haryana will vote in a single phase on October 1, with vote counting for both states on October 4.
