New Delhi: The Centre has directed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to withdraw its latest advertisement for lateral entry into bureaucracy, citing social justice concerns. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision underscores his commitment to reservations for SC, ST, and OBC communities.
"The Prime Minister has taken an important decision keeping in mind social justice on the matter of lateral entry, which has been under discussion for the last few days. Our Minister of State in the PMO, who also oversees the DoPT, has written to the UPSC to withdraw the advertisement until full provisions for reservation are made," Meghwal said, adding that this reflects the PM's dedication to social justice.
He noted that while the concept of lateral entry began during the Congress era, the recent decision demonstrates Modi's unwavering support for reservation policies benefiting marginalized groups.
Lok Janshakti Party leader and Union Minister Chirag Paswan praised the Centre's move and expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister. Paswan stated that this cancellation would restore trust in the government's commitment to social justice, thanking PM Modi for his proactive stance.
Meanwhile, the Congress has claimed success in opposing the lateral entry scheme, with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi asserting that the party remains committed to protecting reservations and the Constitution. Gandhi emphasized that the Congress will fight against any dilution of reservation limits.
