Assam CM Announces New ID Cards, Aid for Old Age Home Residents on Raksha Bandhan

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Sonapur Government Old Age Home on Monday, distributing Aadhaar, Ration, Ayushman, and Orunodoi cards to the residents. The Old Age Home is managed by the Monalisa Society under the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment of the State Government, officials stated.

During the visit, residents tied Rakhi to the Chief Minister in celebration of Raksha Bandhan. On this occasion, Dr. Sarma announced that the state government would issue Aadhaar, Ration, Ayushman, and Orunodoi cards to all residents of old age homes in Assam who currently lack them.

Aadhaar cards will provide 5 kg of free rice per month, while Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Assam CM Jan Arogya Yojana cards will cover up to Rs 5 lakh in annual medical expenses at government hospitals. The Orunodoi scheme will offer a monthly deposit of Rs 1,250 into beneficiaries' bank accounts, he stated.

Additionally, the state government will ensure residents can access health check-ups at Sonapur Civil Hospital. Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, MLA Atul Bora, and Commissioner & Secretary of Social Justice & Empowerment Department Virendra Mittal, among other dignitaries, were also present.

Earlier in the day, members of various social organizations and community members tied Rakhi to Dr. Sarma at a ceremony at his official residence. Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal and Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika were also present at the event.
