West Bengal Government Accused of Influencing Witnesses in RG Kar Rape and Murder Case

Counsel for the victim's family, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, accused the West Bengal government of influencing witnesses in the RG Kar rape and murder case. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance, and the CBI is now investigating. Governor Bose and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari criticized the state's failure to protect women.

The counsel for the victim's family in the RG Kar rape and murder case, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, has accused the West Bengal government of attempting to sway witnesses. Speaking to ANI, Bhattacharya condemned the role of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging she tries to pacify rape victims' families with monetary compensation.

He further claimed that efforts were made to purchase witnesses in the current case, which the victim's parents refused. Bhattacharya said that the case has been handed over to the CBI, which is required to submit its investigative report in court. He criticized the Kolkata police, calling their response inadequate and highlighting the Police Commissioner's failure to control the situation.

The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the rape and murder incident, with a hearing scheduled for August 20. Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari have harshly criticized the state government for failing to ensure women's safety. Governor Bose called for a return to a time when women were respected in society, while Adhikari pointed out the government's contradictory stance on women's safety.
