Kolkata sees widespread anger following the tragic rape-murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. BJP MP Arun Govil voiced concern, stating, 'So many things are happening in Kolkata right now. Whatever is happening there right now shouldn't happen... it has become a very weird atmosphere.'

Responding to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's comments on 'Ram-Bam', Govil said, 'Mamata Banerjee is a free woman in a free country so she can speak anything of her choice.' Banerjee has alleged collusion between the Left and the Bharatiya Janata Party to create unrest in West Bengal, especially referring to the incidents at RG Kar Hospital.

Doctors and locals in Mumbai joined the protests, demanding safety audits in all organizations. Dr. Prerna Gomes from Jaslok Hospital emphasized, 'We urge the government that every organization should have safety audits. The workplace has to be safe for us.'

In response, the West Bengal Governor's office has directed medical colleges to enhance security measures, particularly for women medical professionals. This comes after the Supreme Court decided to take suo motu cognizance of the incident, with a hearing scheduled for August 20.

On August 9, the tragic event unfolded as a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty, leading to nationwide protests by the medical community.
