Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has accused the Opposition of spreading a 'fake narrative' that generated an atmosphere of fear during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Shinde stated that the misleading claims about potential constitutional changes and the withdrawal of reservations created widespread anxiety among people.
Shinde asserted, 'In the Lok Sabha elections, there was a fake narrative that the Constitution would change and reservations would be taken away. The Opposition said that if Modi ji comes, many adverse changes will happen. This narrative deeply penetrated and frightened people.' Reaffirming his faith in the Indian Constitution, Shinde added, 'Jab tak suraj chaand rahaiga Baba Saheb ka Constitution rahaiga.'
He acknowledged that the '400 paar' slogan, suggesting a sweeping victory, may have made party workers complacent, leading to unnecessary statements. Shinde stressed that the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections are different, with localized issues taking precedence in the latter. He noted that the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections would not revisit the central issues from the Lok Sabha polls. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP-led NDA secured 293 seats, while Congress-led INDIA bloc gained significant ground with 240 seats, marking a keenly contested election.
