In a harrowing incident, a 40-year-old Pakistani Sikh woman was rescued after enduring nine months of captivity and repeated rape by her two abductors in Punjab province. The woman and her minor son were freed by police in Faisalabad, some 130 km from Lahore, and the alleged perpetrators have been arrested.

According to ASP Zainab Khalid, head of the Gender-Based Violence Unit in Faisalabad, the victim was illegally confined by two brothers, Khurram Shahzad and Kizar Shahzad. The ordeal began when she asked Khurram, introduced to her by a friend, to drop her son at her sister's house. Instead, he kidnapped them both and subjected her to months of torture.

The police launched an investigation following a complaint from a relative and successfully rescued the mother and child on August 14. Both suspects have been booked under the Pakistan Penal Code, and the woman revealed she was tortured when she resisted rape.
