In the backdrop of Bangladesh's ongoing political unrest, Air India successfully operated a special charter flight from Dhaka to Delhi last night, sources revealed. The flight arrived in Delhi on August 7 with 199 passengers and 6 infants, according to the sources.

Air India managed to carry out this emergency flight at short notice despite significant infrastructure challenges at Dhaka Airport. The airline transported 199 passengers and 6 infants from Dhaka to Delhi, landing early this morning. Bangladesh is currently experiencing a volatile political climate, following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation amidst burgeoning protests on August 5.

The protests, primarily led by students demanding an end to the quota system for government jobs, have escalated into mass anti-government demonstrations. In the wake of Hasina's resignation and her departure from the country, President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament, paving the way for an interim administration, according to Dhaka Tribune.

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed head of the interim government, as reported by the Dhaka Tribune. Joynal Abedin, the President's Press Secretary, confirmed the appointment. This pivotal decision emerged from a meeting between President Shahabuddin and the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The dissolution of the national parliament was based on an accord reached during a meeting involving President Shahabuddin, military officials, political party leaders, civil society representatives, and the Students Against Discrimination movement leaders, a statement from the president's office noted. Additionally, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been released from jail. The statement further mentioned that efforts have begun to release those detained during the student movement from July 1 to August 5, with numerous detainees already freed.

President Shahabuddin's press team issued a statement on Monday, revealing that a meeting led by the president had "decided unanimously" to immediately free Khaleda Zia and all individuals arrested in connection with the student protests.
