Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the state's decision to reject the Kasturi Rangan report on the conservation of the Western Ghats. However, he noted that a final decision will be made after further discussions with Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre.

Speaking at a press conference after inspecting landslide and flood-affected areas, Siddaramaiah revealed that Rs 746 crores are allocated for relief, with Rs 46 crores in Kodagu DC's PD account. He assured additional funds if necessary, emphasizing the challenging conditions caused by ongoing heavy rains.

Landslides have occurred in 20 locations, with smaller landslides in several areas. Fortunately, there have been no fatalities, but several injuries were reported. A total of 67 houses have been completely destroyed, and 176 houses partially damaged. The government will provide Rs 1.20 lakh for fully destroyed houses and Rs 50,000 for partially damaged ones, supplemented by state funds. Compensation has already been transferred to victims' accounts.

A total of 16 cattle have died, with Rs 35,000 compensation per animal. Fourteen relief camps have been established, housing 186 individuals in 10 of these camps. Horticultural crops on 28 hectares have been damaged. A joint survey by the Coffee Board and Revenue Department is underway. Of the 2,708 fallen electric poles, all but 150 have been restored, along with 47 damaged transformers.

Public and district panchayat roads spanning 344 km have sustained damage, with repair works prioritized. The region has experienced 50% more rainfall than usual, complicating relief efforts. Clear instructions have been given to complete landslide repair at the Deputy Commissioner's office by December. Siddaramaiah also announced plans to visit Shiradi Ghat to review the GSI report for a permanent landslide solution.

District In-charge Minister Bosaraju, MLAs Ponnanna and Manthar Gowda, former Minister Nanaiah, and Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh attended the meeting.
