LVMH Appoints Sarah Burton as Givenchy's New Creative Director

French luxury goods giant LVMH announced on Monday the appointment of Sarah Burton, the former Alexander McQueen designer renowned for her creation of the Princess of Wales' 2011 wedding dress, as the new creative director for its Givenchy label.

Burton's arrival marks a significant aesthetic shift for Givenchy, after nearly three decades at McQueen, where she succeeded founder Lee McQueen following his death and maintained the label's deconstructed style. Her predecessor at Givenchy, Matthew M. Williams, known for blending streetwear with sharp tailoring, departed in December.

Burton, celebrated for her discrete and loyal approach to design, will unveil her first Givenchy collection next March. CEO Alessandro Valenti expressed excitement over her appointment, confident that her creative vision will innovate and captivate audiences globally.
