The mortal remains of Indian Navy leading seaman Sitendra Singh, who died in a fire incident on INS Brahmaputra in Mumbai, were consigned to flames in his village in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district on Thursday.

Officials including Jhunjhunu Collector Chinmayee Gopal and SP Rajarshi Raj Verma paid floral tributes to Singh, who was given an emotional farewell in his village. The cremation took place at a farm near Singh's house with his brother Manendra Singh lighting the funeral pyre.

His mother Prem Devi and other women expressed their sorrow as they saw the body. Earlier, a 'Tiranga yatra' (Tricolour march) was conducted, leading the last procession of Singh in his village. Singh had gone missing after a fire onboard INS Brahmaputra at the Mumbai naval dockyard on Sunday evening, and his body was found on Wednesday.

The Tricolour march began from Surajgarh-Chidawa bypass and ended at his village, Danger, covering nearly 10 km. Locals joined with their vehicles and raised 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' slogans while showering flowers. The march ended with tributes paid at Singh's house.

Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff, and all Indian Navy personnel mourned the loss and paid tribute to Sitendra Singh via a social media post, extending heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
