Uruguay striker Luis Suarez announced his international retirement on Monday, ending a remarkable 17-year career with his national team. Suarez, aged 37, concluded his journey as Uruguay's top scorer with an impressive 69 goals in 142 appearances.
Having debuted in 2007, Suarez played pivotal roles in leading Uruguay to the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup and clinching the Copa America title in 2011. 'Friday will be my last match with my country's national team,' said an emotional Suarez during a press conference. 'Retiring on my terms gives me immense peace.'
The striker cherished his final contributions, including a late goal against Canada in the Copa America. He emphasized the importance of his legacy, expressing the desire for his children to witness his final moments on the pitch. Suarez will continue his club career with Inter Miami, alongside former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
