Nuclear Energy to Play Key Role in Viksit Bharat's Future Energy Mix

Nuclear energy is poised to be a crucial component of Viksit Bharat's future energy mix, the government emphasized on Tuesday. Collaborations with private firms to develop small and modular nuclear reactors and conduct research on innovative nuclear technologies are planned.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during her Budget speech, announced that R&D funding allocated in the interim budget will extend to the nuclear sector as well.

''Nuclear energy is expected to form a very significant part of the energy mix of Viksit Bharat,'' she stated. ''Towards that pursuit, our government will partner with private firms for setting up Bharat Small Reactors, and will conduct research and development on Bharat Small Modular Reactors and newer nuclear technologies,'' she added.
