Union Health Minister Leads Initiative to Boost Food Safety Among Street Vendors

Union Health Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda, on Saturday led a training and awareness program for 1,000 street food vendors in Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan. The event, organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), included participation from Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.

Emphasizing the importance of street food, Nadda instructed FSSAI to waive the Rs. 100 registration fee for street food vendors to encourage wider participation. He also introduced the 'Street Safe' Rapid Testing Kit and urged street vendors to enroll on food delivery platforms to expand their customer reach.

Highlighting future initiatives, Nadda noted that certification from FSSAI would boost vendor credibility and promoted the PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi) program. An established portal for street food vendors was launched, and testimonials shared the positive impacts of the training. The event also highlighted the government's commitment to maintaining food safety, cleanliness, and continual vendor education.
