Veteran CPI(M) leader Samir Chakraborty passed away at the age of 72 in the early hours of Thursday at a private hospital in Agartala.

The Tripura State Committee of the All India Kisan Sabha joined in mourning, expressing profound grief at the demise of Chakraborty, who contributed significantly to the communist movement.

Pabitra Kar, Secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha, Tripura State Committee, stated, 'We have lost a long-time companion in our struggle. His departure is a significant loss to the communist movement.' Kar reminisced about Chakraborty's resilience during challenging times and highlighted his electoral success in the 1994 municipal elections.

Chakraborty's leadership spanned roles from state president of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) between 1981 and 1989 to Secretary of the Party's Sadar Division until 2005. He was known for his remarkable skill and dedication as a grassroots leader.

'His passing is a tremendous loss to the communist movement and to the people he served. We extend our deepest condolences to his family,' added Kar. (ANI)
