The Karnataka cabinet's recent approval of a bill mandating 100% reservation for Kannadigas in Category C and D jobs has ignited a wave of controversy. Businessman and philanthropist TV Mohandas Pai criticized the state government, emphasizing that skill development and education funding are better ways to promote local employment. 'Spend more on higher education, skill development, internships, and apprenticeship programs to make Kannadigas job-ready, rather than relying on reservations,' he told ANI on Wednesday.

Pai, who chairs Manipal Global Education Services, condemned the bill as 'fascist' and unconstitutional, urging its repeal. He expressed concerns over the bill's discriminatory nature and questioned the state's role in private sector recruitment processes, comparing it to an authoritarian measure from George Orwell's 'Animal Farm.'

In response, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge sought to alleviate industry fears, promising consultations with key stakeholders before implementing the bill. 'The labour department will consult the industry, Information Technology Department, and other relevant ministries to ensure a balanced approach. There's no need to panic,' Kharge assured.

Additionally, Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil assured that any apprehensions would be addressed in meetings with the Chief Minister. 'We will resolve this confusion and ensure it doesn't adversely affect the industry,' Patil told ANI.

On Tuesday, the Karnataka cabinet approved the bill, which reserves 50% of management jobs and 75% of non-management jobs in the private sector for locals. The bill also includes 100% reservation for locals in 'C&D' grade government jobs. Industry leaders have expressed concerns that such measures are discriminatory and could negatively impact the tech sector.
