Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole on Saturday criticized the state government over its handling of the Badlapur sexual assault case, accusing the administration of continuous failures. Patole stated that the High Court had reprimanded the government and alleged that the board of directors involved were connected to the RSS and BJP, which he claimed influenced the government's response.

Patole demanded that the entire government, including CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, resign due to their accountability for the incident. He added that there is growing anger among the public as the government and administration lack fear and understanding.

Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad asserted that efforts were being made to suppress their voices but vowed to continue their fight. She emphasized the need for 'Surakshit Behna' (safe sister) instead of 'Laadli Behna' (dear sister), highlighting numerous incidents across Maharashtra and criticizing the government's attempts to silence dissent.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, alongside Maha Vikas Aghadi party leaders and workers wearing black armbands, protested in Pune. Pawar condemned the government's insensitive remarks, emphasizing the serious nature of the continuous atrocities against women in the state and urging for a sincere government response.

The special investigation team (SIT) has filed an FIR against the school authorities involved in the Badlapur incident for failing to comply with section 19 of the POCSO Act, which mandates reporting sexual assaults against minors. The alleged abuse of two fourth-grade girls at the school has led to outrage, with the police arresting a school attendant on August 17 for the alleged actions. (ANI)
