In the midst of growing tensions between governors and opposition-led state governments, senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi has proposed either abolishing the governor's position or appointing individuals of stature through consensus to the role.
Elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Telangana, Singhvi also weighed in on the frequent conflicts between parliamentary chairs and the opposition. He stressed the need for reforms to ensure impartiality in the parliamentary process.
Singhvi criticized the current government for diminishing the role of various institutions and turning governors into de facto second chief executives. The principle, originally outlined by Ambedkar, is being violated, leading to governance issues and prolonged decision-making, Singhvi warned.
