In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) teamed up with the Forest department and police station Jatrapur to uproot 15,000 ganja saplings worth Rs 7,50,000 in Tripura's Nirbhoypur village. The operation followed specific intelligence about an Indian national, Babul Mazumdar, cultivating ganja at the back of his Nirbhoypur residence, according to a press release from BSF's Tripura headquarters.

Legal action is currently being pursued by the Forest Department and Jatrapur police station against the landowners involved. The BSF reiterated its strong commitment to eradicating ganja cultivation in Tripura's border areas, as stated in their official press release.

In a separate operation earlier in the day, BSF recovered approximately 1.060 kg of heroin from the Amritsar border area. Acting on suspicious sounds heard during nighttime patrols on July 16, 2024, BSF troops conducted a special search operation in the area. They successfully recovered two packets of suspected heroin, along with three pairs of slippers, a machete, a water bottle, and a thin cotton towel. The heroin packets, weighing a total of 1.060 kg, were wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and found with metal rings attached to them. This discovery was made in a farming field near Mahawa village in the Amritsar district, as reported in an official release.
