In a significant development, the Karnataka government announced the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission starting August 1. Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge stated that this was a key demand of the populace and will benefit around 14 to 15 lakh state employees.

'Seventh Pay Commission was one of the demands of the people and it was also there in our manifesto. Yesterday we brought it into the Cabinet and saw the blueprint of the financials. It will benefit around 14 to 15 lakh state employees,' Kharge told ANI on Tuesday.

The cabinet, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, took this decision during a meeting on Monday, following the first day of the assembly session. Several development projects were also greenlit in the meeting.

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar confirmed the decision via a post on X, writing, 'Sweet news for government employees: The Cabinet meeting held today decided to implement the much sought after 7th Pay Commission recommendations. The recommendations will come into effect from August 1.'

The new pay structure will lead to a 27.5 per cent salary hike for state government employees and is anticipated to cost the state exchequer approximately Rs 17,440 crore annually.
