The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) organised a plantation drive as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign at various locations in the national capital on Saturday, under the guidance of LG VK Saxena and Vice Chairman Subhashish Panda. The effort aims to enhance environmental sustainability.

One such drive took place at Dwarka in DDA's Sector 19B housing development, while another was conducted at Jahanpanah City Forest with the help of school students. Efforts also reached Kalindi Aviral Extension, aiming to restore the Yamuna Floodplains and District Park Sheesh Mahal Shalimar Bagh. Additional drives occurred at Park No. 2 in Sector-6, Dwarka, and the Green Belt near Shahpur village, Narela. DDA maintains approximately 733 parks and plays a crucial role in keeping Delhi green.

During the monsoon season each year, DDA organizes plantation drives to preserve the city's green areas. For FY 2024-25, DDA has set a target to plant 11 lakh plants, including 94,000 trees and 10 lakh shrubs. So far, 55 percent of the target has been achieved with around 605,109 plants being planted. About 21,552 acres of Delhi's land is under green cover, with 10,490 acres managed by DDA. In 2023-24, over 8.8 lakh trees and shrubs were planted. The authority ensures saplings receive adequate care for optimal survival.
