A woman was found dead on the Mahipalpur Bypass road in the early hours of Sunday morning, police said. The deceased was identified as Meera Chhetri (44), a resident of Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, in West Bengal.
Police said that a PCR call was received in the police station at around 5 am in PS V K North, informing them that a woman was found unconscious on the Mahipalpur Bypass road. Immediately, police reached the spot, i.e., opposite CISF gate No. 01, Mahipalpur Bypass road. After reaching the spot, the police found the woman to be unresponsive. During the inquiry, the police discovered the name and address of the woman.
Subsequently, she was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The scene was thoroughly inspected and photographed by the crime team. The family members of the deceased, including her husband, Rajesh Chhetri, were informed, and a postmortem investigation was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital Mortuary.
As per the police analysis of the CCTV footage and discussion of the nature of the injuries, it appears that she was hit by some vehicle. However, an investigation into the matter is underway.
