Newly appointed West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhankar Sarkar on Sunday pledged to strengthen his party's presence in the state by working with former PCC presidents Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Pradip Bhattacharya, as well as grassroots workers.
He emphasized that the Congress would continue to raise its voice against the ruling parties both at the Centre and state levels, but would support any constructive efforts, such as setting up industries. Addressing a press conference at Bidhan Bhavan, Sarkar vowed to ensure that law and order would allow parents to feel safe about their daughters' well-being if the Congress is voted to power.
Sarkar also announced plans for Congress workers to address issues like state corruption in outreach programs after the upcoming Durga Puja, ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. Despite setbacks in the 2021 polls, where the Congress and the Left Front failed to win a single seat, Sarkar is committed to strengthening the party with guidance from seasoned leaders and grassroots feedback. He reiterated his commitment to working in the people's interest, following the path laid out by Rahul Gandhi.
Amid the state's current troubles, including a tragic incident at R G Kar Medical College and flood woes, Sarkar intends to visit district offices and meet with party leaders and workers to align strategies. He noted that despite people's expectations from Congress, they are often misled by binary politics.
