Historical Insights: Unveiling India's Legislative Evolution

An exhibition showcasing rare archival documents related to key legislative developments, including the Bofors case and the inception of the BJP, is currently on display at the National Archives of India (NAI). The exhibition, inaugurated by Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, offers a glimpse into India's rich governance history.

Approximately 74,000 files of historical importance were transferred to the NAI from various ministries during a special cleanliness campaign from 2021 to 2024, as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. These documents, termed as 'institutional memories' by the Culture Minister, have been meticulously preserved for public viewing.

The display includes a trove of significant records, among them colour photos of Rashtrapati Bhavan post-Independence, legislative developments, and important patents. Visitors can also explore records related to India's trade, industrial growth, and the evolution of the Election Commission, showcasing a journey from ballot boxes to electronic voting machines.
