Deputy President Gachagua Fights Impeachment
Kenya's Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has filed a petition in Nairobi's court to stop an impeachment process started by lawmakers. The motion, initiated by allies of President William Ruto, accuses Gachagua of inciting ethnic divisions and undermining the government. Gachagua refutes these allegations.
Nairobi—Kenya's Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is taking legal action to block an impeachment process initiated by lawmakers earlier this week, according to local media reports.
The motion, spearheaded by allies of President William Ruto, charges Gachagua with inciting ethnic hatred and destabilizing the government. However, Gachagua dismisses these claims, stating that he feels marginalized by the current administration.
In Thursday's court filing, Gachagua labeled the impeachment a 'choreographed political lynching,' aimed at overturning the democratic choice made by the Kenyan electorate in the August 2022 presidential election, as reported by The Star newspaper.
