Supreme Court to Review NGT's 'Dhol-Tasha' Restriction Ahead of Ganesh Visarjan

The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea against the National Green Tribunal's order restricting 'dhol-tasha' groups to 30 members for Ganesh idol immersion. A lawyer argued the urgency due to the upcoming Ganesh Visarjan. The NGT imposed this limit to control noise pollution during the festival.

The Supreme Court is poised to review a plea challenging the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) order, which restricts 'dhol-tasha' groups to a maximum of 30 members for the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols. The matter will be heard on Thursday.

A bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, noted a lawyer's submission questioning the restriction's rationale. The lawyer emphasized the urgency due to the forthcoming Ganapati Visarjan.

The NGT's decision aims to mitigate noise pollution, a persistent issue during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, which started on September 7 and run for 10-11 days. 'Dhol-tasha' groups have traditionally been integral to the festivities in various parts of Maharashtra.
