Walmik Karad, a close aide to Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde, surrendered to the police in Pune on Tuesday, linked to a murder and extortion case. Before his surrender, Karad posted a social media video claiming political vendetta, following the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in Beed district.

The heinous abduction and murder of Deshmukh on December 9 has already seen four arrests. Karad arrived at the Pune CID office, denouncing the allegations as fabricated and driven by politics. He called for severe punishment for those truly involved.

The incident incited a major protest in Beed, demanding Karad's arrest and further scrutiny of alleged connections with NCP minister Munde. A judicial probe has been announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
