A statue of BR Ambedkar was vandalised in Deeg district of Rajasthan, triggering protests in the area as additional police force was deployed to keep the situation under control, officials said on Monday.

Locals took to the streets, demanding the arrest of the person responsible, who remains unidentified. Protests caused damage to a fire brigade vehicle, according to a police officer.

Additional Superintendent of Police Satish Kumar Yadav disclosed that an unidentified miscreant broke a finger of the statue at Ambedkar Park on Jurhara Road late Sunday night. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprit. Around 100 policemen have been deployed to maintain order, and the situation is currently normal.
