The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) announced on Saturday its plan to release a set of recommendations aimed at 'rebuilding' the Malayalam film industry into an equal and safe workspace for all professionals.
In a Facebook post, the WCC expressed hope that industry members would join in open solidarity to adopt a 'cinema code of conduct.' The new recommendations are being drafted in light of the Justice K Hema Committee report that highlighted the exploitation and ill-treatment of women in the industry.
The Collective's renewed efforts come on the heels of the Kerala government's announcement of a seven-member special investigation team to probe allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation against several actors and directors. This initiative follows the 2017 actress assault case and the subsequent Justice K Hema Committee report.
